Tell us about how being a corporate professional working in financial institution in newyork prompted you to pursue films
It's a long story, cut short I was always interested in movies. I grew up watching minimum 2 films every week. It was a matter of time I had to decide and I took the plunge when I actually having a decent career with a steady paycheck as I knew someday I have to make this decision. I am happy that I made it sooner than later.
It has its own merits / drawbacks. but nothing to complain about. all my films were well received by audience, they played in many international festivals, and infact in florida my film Kissing Miss Jones was played few more times as the audience loved it than just once. It is not a easy job being a filmmaker and doing what you want to do. creation of something is comparable to 9 months gestation, but when you finally see your film on screen its a great feeling.
Being Indian, living in New York, I got the advantage of seeing the culture here through a different perspective. I was born and raised in India, and been living here since past 6 years - the experiences I have in India, and the cultural differences / the differences in mindset are all very intriguing and helps me develop complex characters. It helps to make movies crossing ethnic/racial boundaries. and New York is a wonderful place to be - the punctuality / professionalism of people working here is unquestionable. There are fair share of problems, but nothing that cant be really tackled with or sorted.
MayBeetle is a film set in New York City, that deals with the issue of International Terrorism against a back drop of love between two strangers who happen to spend one day together. It asks the questions as to whether an eye for an eye is an answer for everything. Love and innocence can change the world and can kick start a change is the message that is conveyed, premiered in NewFilm Makers Film Festival at the historical Anthology Archives in NY City.
Kissing Miss Jones on the other hand - a comedic take ala Woody Allen style about the troubles of a 30 year old immigrant Indian Baal Pathak, the movie looks at the life of immigrant indians and indian americans in New York, and asks the question, how important is it to succeed in the rat race to make it big or having a family is the priority to live happily.
It's a romantic comedy built around three distinctly different guys all of whom pine for the same beautiful girl and how their friends play an important role in all this. It's a love triangle, and more that envelopes four characters and their friends as they experience their 2010 summer in New York City. "Love, Lies & Seeta," is a film that explores the ideals and subjectivity of the term "love," with a story interwoven through different friendships while crossing traditional borders of ethnicity.
If the story itself is not a triumph, the fact that this film was made at all must be considered one. I was limited by budget and resource constraints, and the movie is funded by film enthusiasts who believed in the project and in the strong screenplay, we made ample use of New York as its backdrop, as its most important supporting character.
